Our company having a more sustainability focus is not just a trend; it’s a strategic plan which we are using to benefit both our business and the planet.
Choosing eco-friendly actions helps shrink our impact on the environment, making the planet healthier. It’s like taking care of our home! Being smart with resources not only saves money but also sets us up for success in the long run. So, going green isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s a way to make a positive difference globally and succeed in the future.
With this in mind, our marketing apprentice, Amelia, returned to her old college. She was invited to talk to Travel & Tourism course students about her apprenticeship experience so far, and took along boxes of old travel brochures for the course tutors to utilise.
After talking with Jenny, our Sustainability Ambassador, about how we can be more sustainable as a company, we came up with the idea to donate out of date brochures from the Travel Village shop to Blackpool Sixth Form College. I left there in May 2023 after completing the Triple BTEC Level 3 Travel & Tourism course.
After that conversation, I got in contact with my old teachers, who were more than happy to receive any materials that we could provide them with.
When I arrived at the college, I was also invited to speak to the students about the things I’ve learnt in marketing so far, this is due to Travel and Tourism marketing is part of the course and also about life after college in general, what path I took and about the variety of jobs within the travel industry.
It felt great to give back to my college, as I know the brochures would be a great help to the students in their studies, but it was also rewarding to have the chance to be able to share my experience about the opportunities which arise after college.”
Amelia Bonney – Marketing Apprentice
We know that brochures aren’t the most sustainable way of advertising, however they are still a large part of our front shop marketing.
Being able to save our unused brochures from landfill, and be able to lend a helping hand to our local community is a double win for us. We’re really glad that we were able to work with our local sixth form to do this.
We’re always on the lookout for ways in which we can help the environment, and this one just made sense!

Rachel and Stacey, Travel and Tourism tutors from Blackpool Sixth Form College shared their gratitude towards Amelia
Thank you so much to our lovely former student for visiting us with lots of brochures last week! The brochures are an invaluable resource to us at college to help us with many different units including Global Destinations and Accommodation.
Brochures are a tangible resource for our students to use to help them look at destinations around the world, put together itineraries and look at standards of accommodation throughout the world. They also help with the marketing unit as they help the students to identify different target markets for brochures.
The highlight of the visit for us, was when Amelia confidently and proudly talked to two full classes of students about her role, inspiring them further to seek employment in our wonderful industry. Congratulations Amelia!
