“To sum up how I’m feeling in one word – gobsmacked. I’m really looking forward to the event in London and, whether I win or not, I’m proud of being shortlisted in such a prestigious event.
Part of my business is dedicated to female solo travellers, which is called Wendy’s Wanderers. It’s taken off massively, and I feel so privileged to take ladies to amazing places they wouldn’t usually go on their own. The feedback I get is always incredible. These ladies are forming new friendships, conquering their nerves and exploring our fabulous planet.
Covid was a scary time to be working in travel, and for 2 years I battled against wave after wave of cancellations, ever-changing travel restrictions, delivering disappointment and generally trying to stay afloat. As soon as we were allowed to relax social distancing, I opened the Holiday Hut. It was a place where my clients could come and meet me, face-to-face, to discuss plans; and I think that was really important to them because we’d been without proper interaction for so long. To survive the pandemic you had to be creative, and move out of your comfort-zone. With a few changes, and some fresh ideas, I turned over £1.25 million in sales last year and had sold out Wanderers Trips for the next 18 months! It’s mind-blowing to me”
